While the benefits of consuming cranberry are many, it is mainly used for treating Urinary Tract Infections (UTI). UTI is a commonly occurring infection in the urinary tract, the symptoms for which include pain with urination, frequent urination, and feeling the need to urinate despite having an empty bladder. It can be seen in men and women and the symptoms are similar for both.
UTI’s can be of 2 types: The lower tract and the upper tract. The lower tract UTI involves the infection in the urethra and bladder, while the upper tract UTI involves the infection in the ureters and the kidney. UTI of the lower tract is the most commonly seen infection, both in men and women. Recurrent UTIs usually take as long as 6 months of treatment.
As said earlier, Cranberry is mostly used for the treatment of UTI in women. Cranberry along with D’Mannose, sucrose that is important in metabolism, stops the UTI causing bacteria from attaching itself to the lining of the bladder. Proanthocyanidins (PACs) is yet another component that is derived from cranberries that possess properties to promote the maintenance of a clean waste stream. As such, cranberry + D’mannose capsules are effective for people who have a possibility of recurrent UTI.
